As Secretary of the Board of Directors of Scient Federal Credit Union, I am supplying notice to all members eligible to vote at our annual meeting to be held on March 25, 2021 of the following:
- The nominating committee has filed its nominations for all expiring or vacant positions for the Board of Directors. A brief outline of qualifications for each nominee is provided below.
- Elections for all expiring or vacant positions will not be conducted by ballot and there will be no nominations from the floor when the number of nominees equals the number of positions to be filled.
- A member in good standing may also be nominated by a petition signed by 1% of the members with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 500. Each nominee by petition must submit a statement of qualifications and biographical data with the petition. Additionally, nominations by petition must be accompanied by a signed certificate from the nominee or nominees stating that they are agreeable to nomination and will serve if elected to office. The closing date for receiving nominations by petition is February 8, 2021 and must be filed with the Secretary of the Board of Directors by February 13, 2021.

Adam Smogowicz, Treasurer has been a member of the credit union for 30+ years. Adam has had a long volunteer career at Scient: 1980–1984 Credit Committee,1984 Director, 1986 Vice President, 1988–1991 & 2014–2015 Secretary, 2001–2013 Chairman & 1992–2000 & 2016—present Treasurer. Adam received his B.S. in Biology from Fordham University, and received his M.B.A. Finance from the University of New Haven. After a 36-year career with Pfizer, Inc., initially, with Pharmaceutical Quality Control, Brooklyn, N.Y. and concluding with the Biocatalysis Research group in Groton, Ct, Adam is enjoying retirement.
Jeff Mastrachio, Director Jeff Mastracchio has been a member of Scient Federal Credit Union for over 5 years and has served as Associate Director since June 2019 and as Director since October 2020. He works in the Pfizer Legal Division as Senior Corporate Counsel, where he supports business clients and advises them on areas including healthcare fraud and abuse and advertising and promotion. Jeff earned his law degree at Georgetown University and his bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Bucknell University. When he is not working, Jeff enjoys spending time with his five children, including coaching their soccer and baseball teams. When Jeff needs a little time away from his five children, you are likely to find him somewhere outdoors, skiing, biking, boating, or gardening.
Brian Oat, Director joined the Credit Union in February 2011 and has served on the Board as Director since March 2018. He has over 20 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. Within Pfizer, Brian has held many different roles. His most recent as Director, Site Intelligence within Clinical Development & Operations. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Information Systems from Bryant University and is currently pursuing an M.B.A. from the University of Rhode Island. When not working or studying, Brian can be found outdoors exploring New England’s natural wonders.
